Laura J Lukitsch
Laura J. Lukitsch's multi-cultural background infuses a deep sense of cultural inquiry into her work. Once an economics student in India, she has worked as filmmaker with artistic, public television, and corporate clients - from Silicon Valley, Massachusetts, Johannesburg, and beyond. Beard Club, a film about the social politics of facial hair, is Laura’s first feature-length documentary.
BioGraphy
Laura J. Lukitsch is a filmmaker whose work focuses on issues of cultural norms and customs and the effects of living in a multi-cultural society. Having lived abroad for several years, studying in Japan and receiving a Masters in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University in India, she brings her sense of cultural inquiry to all of her work. She has completing over 20 short and feature length projects, including her most recent work on the multi-disciplinary dance-theatre choreographer Erika Chong Shuch, and a segment on dance choreographer Jess Curtis, which she did for Spark*, a program of San Francisco’s PBS station, KQED. She is in post-production with her first feature length documentary, Beard Club, a film about the social politics of facial hair. Other works include dance documentaries, Life Spheres and Wire Monkey Dance and video segments for the multi-media theatre shows Searching for God in Kerela and Murder. She is a resident of the diverse city of San Francisco and keeps her ties to other cultures by traveling every opportunity she gets.
