Stu Maddux
Stu Maddux is a freelance producer/director, writer, editor and cinematographer who has become a multi-award winning documentary filmmaker.
BioGraphy
His films include the critically-acclaimed Bob and Jack’s 52-Year Adventure,
about an Army sergeant who began an affair with his commanding officer
in 1952. The two men came out to the troops in their unit and are still
together a half-century later.
His most recent documentary, Trip To Hell And Back, is about a famous horse rider who reveals for the first time his secret
life as a high-stakes crystal-methamphetamine dealer. The film won
Grand Prize for Short Documentary at it’s premiere during the Rhode
Island Intl. Film Festival.
Currently in production is Gen Silent, a film documenting elderly LGBT people who go back into the closet to survive in the healthcare system.
Maddux’s
work has been televised internationally including, BBC and Showtime and
screened at more than 40 film festivals winning top honors at a handful
of those. His company MAD STU Productions self-distributes his films in
theaters and on DVD.
Prior
to independent filmmaking Maddux was a supervising producer creating
programming for national networks including NBC, VH-1 and TLC.
He began his career as a television reporter/anchor in Nashville, Tennessee where he won six regional Emmies.
Maddux has a Bachelors of Journalism from the University of Missouri and speaks frequently on story writing and documentary filmmaking.
